Christina Anderson
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC)
I received my Masters from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA with a dual degree in Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy in 2007. Through my internships at Harvard affiliate hospitals including McLean Hospital and Whidden Hospital I had the opportunity to work with a variety of clients including those on the adult psychotic disorders unit, Geriatric Alzheimer's and dementia care unit, Older Adult Day Treatment Program, and General Psychiatric Crisis Unit. I went on to work at Truman Medical Center in downtown Kansas City on their Adult Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit. I had the opportunity to work with adults managing major depression, anxiety, PTSD, suicidal ideation, self-harming behavior, self-care failure, psychosis, and delusions. As the group art therapist at Rainbow Mental Health state hospital I helped patients utilize their creativity for overcoming life crisis and coping with severe or chronic mental illness. Ensuring ethical and confidential practice have been strengths of mine as I was appointed to the Ethics and Safety Committees at Rainbow and Osawatomie State Hospitals. After providing years of crisis care in the hospital setting I built my private practice in 2012 with the intention of encouraging and supporting early intervention for avoiding crisis when possible and promoting improved well-being in the community. I have always liked working with people and listening is a natural skill for me. I am very easy going but will give you the extra push when we both know you can do more. In addition to the National Counseling Exam (NCE) required for state licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor I have also passed the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE) for serving specialty areas in counseling. Cultural competencies and equal access to good care is important to me and I utilize my continuing education opportunities to best serve a diverse community.
